The Future of Car Safety is Here

by admin on Nov.30, 2009, under News

Ford introduces the automotive industry’s first-ever production inflatable seat belts, which are designed to prevent injuries in car accidents. The combination of seat belt and air bag technology is more focused on neck, head and chest injuries, specifically in older passengers and children.

According to Ford Motor Co., the new technology will introduce in the rear seats of the next-generation Ford Explorer which begins production by next year, but still they have plans to eventually offer them on car industries all over the world. Unlike any traditional car air bags which rely on a heating-generating chemical reaction. The belts inflate slower and to a lower pressure.

Ford Safety Technical Leader also said that this is very logical system and simple but it requires extensive trial and error to prove out the inflatable seat belts and ensure reliable performance in crash situation.
We all know that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the inflatable seat belts technology. In fact Ford may not be the first time to market with the concept. The Lexus LFA also featured a SRS seatbelt as well. So we don’t have any idea if the next-generation Ford Explorer will beat the LFA. But Ford assures that they will do whatever it takes to make the best hi-technology.

So the big question is, how much does system cost? Ford would not say how much extra the inflatable seatbelts will cost, but they intend to make the price very reasonable, very affordable for people particularly for families.

Will the Small Be the New Big?

by admin on Nov.29, 2009, under News

For decades and almost a century, roads have been infiltrated by the luxury sedans, vans and huge trucks. These are vehicles that are use to transport people from one place to another. But as time passes by, things (traffic, global warming, oil insufficiency, economic crisis) get a little more complicated than before that all that is needed to be done includes getting a low-cost, low-maintenance, fuel-efficient, and, most specially, eco-friendly car.

Hesitant as they may seem, the Indian Auto Maker had already came up with a literally little solution to this predicament in the presence of Tata Nano. The latter is a rear-engined, four-passenger city car built by Tata Motors and is very fuel efficient, reaching around 26 kilometers per liter. Well, the hesitation later turned to pride that they had with the car. To date, a lot of car makers are also trying to produce such cars that will also attempt to reach the middle and lower class people and to bridge advancement in technology and efficiency in transportation with the preservation of Mother Nature. They are often called compact cars and super mini cars.

On 26th of last month, indonesiamatters.com released an article. In here, international car makers around the globe are enticed to invest in Indonesia with regards to the production of cars like the Tata Nano. This is inclusive of huge tax break and other incentive schemes provided that they will use 60% level of local components in production. If this will push through, this type of vehicle will be sold at only around 60M Indonesian Rupiah or $6434.3164. With this price, it is more likely that people from the target market would be able to afford it. And if these small cars make it big in the auto industry, meaning tons of sales, then probably, we can make the complicated things a little easier again.

Ferrari’s New Sensation: Ferrari 458 Italia

by admin on Nov.27, 2009, under News

Want the latest from Ferrari? Here it is, the all new Ferrari 458 Italia. This super car was intended as a replacement for the F430. Having a mid rear engine, the Italia will be powered by an all-new 4.5-liter direct-injection V8 that yields 570HP at 9,000 rpm and 398.2 lb-ft of torque (540Nm) at 6,000 rpm. Based on a car review, around eighty percent of this torque is available at a low 3,250 rpm.

Aside from these dazzling engine enhancements, the Italia has also been a project dictated by aerodynamic efficiency. Its aluminum frame and structure keeps weight under control. It only weighs around 3,000 pounds and claimed by Ferrari to generate 309 lbs (140kg) of down force at 124mph.

Moreover, its new V8 engine is equipped with its seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that channels power to the rear-wheels. This has been the highest output per liter in the history of the company’s production. The engine and transmission system triggers the super car from 0 to 62mph in less than 3.4 seconds and to a maximum speed of more than 202mph. This will be the first volume production Ferrari V8 to top the 200 mph barrier.

Another addition to this newest sensation is the so called “pre-fill function” as being described by the company itself. This is a feature of the Italia’s braking system whereby the pistons in the calipers shift the pads into contact with the discs on lift off to reduce delay in the brakes being applied. This results in a braking distance of a mere 106 feet from 62mph to a standstill.

Amazing isn’t it? Well, to know more about the Italia, you can watch some auto shows on different states in the country this November. It would really be nice to see this car which defies speed and gravity and uplifts Ferrari to another level.

Famous soccer player adds Range Rover Sport to his collection

by admin on Nov.26, 2009, under News

Fame and luxury cars always go hand in hand, and David Beckham, one of the world’s famous soccer players, is no exception to this. Known for his obsession with black cars, the England and L.A. Galaxy star was recently seen driving a customized supercharged Range Rover Sport.

Even though, there were no interior shots of the Range Rover Sport, its exterior looks very slick with fully tinted windows as well as an all-black 24-inch wheels. That’s as cool as you can get for someone like Beckham.

This is Beckham’s latest collection of all-black cars which includes a Cadillac Escalade, Jeep Wrangler, Lincoln Navigator, Porsche 911 Cabriolet and Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe.

Other than this collection, the soccer player also owns a Ferrari 575, Ferrari F430, Lamborghini Gallardo, two Bentley Arnages, a Porsche 911 Turbo, armour-plated BMW X5, a BMW M3, numerous other Range Rovers and a 1991 Ford Escort

Other high-profile soccer stars with obsessions to luxury cars are Wayne Rooney who plays for Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid. But still, Beckham remains on top of the list when it comes to soccer player and car collections. This is not surprising as luxury cars remain to be social symbols especially for high-status celebrities or athletes.

It was earlier estimated that Beckham already spent over £5 million on cars.

2010 Mustang Cobra Revealed

by admin on Nov.24, 2009, under News

Ford Racing has recently unveiled 2010 Cobra Jet Mustang at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show which was held at Las Vegas, Nevada. The car is designed to be a factory-built race car intended for National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Stock and Super Stock Racing.

The car’s features are mostly based on the 2008 Mustang Cobra Jet, which was released last year. Ford decided to give a follow-up as the 2008 version was a huge success with all the units selling out well even before the production started. The 2010 predecessor is gradually proving its worth so this is not bad decision for the company.

The new Jet Mustang will have an impressive 5.4-liter V8 engine which is capable to deliver at 475 horsepower. However, the engines will come in different blocks. The base Cobra Jet will have its engine in cast iron block present in GT500 and ‘08 CJ while the Super Cobra Jet will have its engine in a lighter aluminum block material.  In addition to engine upgrades, all 2010 Cobra Jets will have the following improved features:

  • Aeromotive return type system fuel system
  • Fabricated aluminum intercooler tank (this is an improvement from the plastic tank)
  • Fans to the intercooler to help control temperature
  • Line locks to help avoid rear brake burnouts
  • Fuse panel behind the glove box cover
  • Full set of racing safety harnesses
  • Fastened air bag for easy access

The new 2010 will have a price range from $77,000 to $95,000.  This car is obviously a hit to the racers as the 50 units have already been delivered to the dealers. For enthusiasts who missed purchasing the 50 units, Ford has promised to provide future versions of the Cobra Jet.

The world’s fastest car: 1994 Dauer 962 LeMans

by admin on Nov.23, 2009, under News

The quality of a car considered largely depends on many factors. People would talk about the engine, design, and other aspects. But when it comes to sports car, car enthusiasts will all agree that the speed matters the most. Most people would even buy sports car because it was the fastest ever.

The world’s fastest sports car was the 94 Dauer 962 LeMans. This car can reach 60 miles per hour in just 2.6 seconds compared to Ferrari Enzo, which is believed to be the fastest one which can do this in 3.5 seconds. Furthermore, there are other sports car that can run faster than the Enzo based trial of 60 mph. Cars like the Corvette and Viper can run for 60 mph from rest in just under 3 seconds. This 94 Dauer 962 LeMans was based on Porsche 962 racing car and built by German Jochen Dauer. This is why this is usually pinpointed as the fastest car.

Another important factor that contributes to the speed of a car is the way a car is able to control when it’s driving into a corner. Speed really matters when it comes to sports cars. Every aspect of it, contributes to its speed. Although the Dauer Porsche 962 LeMans was officially claimed to achieve 230 mph, there are unverified claims that the car could exceeded 250 mph. Now that you know, you will surely appreciate sport cars better.

Chinese Cash for Clunkers, not effective?

by admin on Nov.22, 2009, under News

The program Car Allowance Rebate Systems (CARS) program, colloquially called “Cash for Clunkers” had been a tremendous success in the US and in Europe. This is evident in the stabilizing figures of car sales from different auto makers. The program, however, can be recalled to have ended two months ago.

On the contrary, media reports last August had been saying that the cash for clunkers program in China will not be curtailed until 2010. This is in line with the unfortunate outcome that it (CARS) has not been victorious in stimulating car sales as it has been in the two major areas cited above. The slight failure is viewed to be caused by the lack of ‘clunker’ base in China. Government tax breaks on new car sales also had its fair share in the increased car sales in the country.

The program was primarily set to end this year but it is still unclear if the program will be pursued until next year although the “old swap new” policy along with the “vehicles to villages” policy are sure to push through on 2010 as said by the Chinese National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) officials.

Perhaps, figures really show that the efficiency is less than what is expected of it. But for us to really know if it’s helpful, let it carry on first without the other projects.

Choosing the Best Car

by admin on Nov.21, 2009, under News

People often ask “What is the best car to buy?” and the answer depends on many things. But since the dawn of the car industry, more people have been buying European cars because they have great performance and the durability is high compared to other cars. However, the price may be a bit high compared to the ordinary cars. American cars are also popular and Asian car makes are also sold in large quantities.

However, cars have different models and styles. Just like people who have different needs and tastes in automobiles. Some prefer luxury cars. These cars are built with optimum style and elegance. However, their prices may be high and their availability may be only limited.

Sports cars on the other hand are small and have high speeds. These are made for racing and most convertibles can be modified to the fullest. Asian cars are known for their fuel-efficient abilities and their performance when it comes to the road is unquestionable. It appeals to the masses because it is easy to drive and the parts are widely available. One can even buy aftermarket parts for most Asian car models. American cars like Ford are known for their nice trucks and their racing mustangs.

There is a wide variety of cars to choose from. When choosing the best car, make sure that you buy the one that definitely suits your transportation needs.
