First Drive for the 2011 Lexus LFA

by admin on Nov.19, 2009, under News

The Lexus LFA is a two-seat exotic sports coupe produced by Lexus as a concept car, racing prototype, and production vehicle. It began its development as a supercar project codenamed P280 In January 2005 which premiered at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan.

The 2011 LF-A is moving toward its official introduction at the 2009 Tokyo Auto Show. It appeared here at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. And now we’re going to drive it. The new Lexus LFA marks an important moment in both the history of Lexus and the development of the supercar.

Much effort has been made to make the car light (1,480 kilograms) but strong and rigid, with an unusually low centre of gravity (450 millimetres). It uses Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) for the chassis and bodywork. At four times the strength of aluminium, CFRP gives the Lexus LFA an exceptionally stiff and strong structure, and also delivers major weight advantages, saving around 100kg on an equivalent aluminium body.

Here’s what they will be getting - a sophisticated 552-horsepower, 4.8-litre V10 packaged in a two-seat sports coupe that features some of the most advanced technology in the business. The V10 engine produces 480Nm of torque at 6,800rpm, 90 per cent of which is available from 3,700rpm all the way to the 9,000rpm red line, thanks to Dual VVT-i technology,

Obviously, the LFA design has moved forward from the original concept to production reality. Deliveries are scheduled to start in January, 2011. The production run, which will build no more than 20 cars a month, will wrap up in November, 2012.

Lexus LFA: New Super car Revealed

by admin on Nov.09, 2009, under News

Toyota’s luxury car division, Lexus, officially announced the newest Lexus FLA super car. The two-seat super car has a hefty price tag of $375,000 and is scheduled into production in 2010. Enthusiasts should expect this car in the market until early 2010.

This car is not only expensive but is possibly to become one of the rarest super cars in the world. Only 500 units will be produced and sold worldwide. A prototype of the LFA is now displayed at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show and is open to public from October 24 to November 4 at Makauhari Messe in Makuhari, Chiba Prefecture.

The car boasts impressive specifications. It has newly developed 4.8-liter V10 engine which delivers between 3,700rpm and 9,000rpm, 354 lb-ft torque, and 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 202 mph.

In addition to its impressive engine, the car is also said to be strong and lightweight. The cabin, which is made up of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP), is 100 kilograms lighter than a comparable aluminum cabin. It also boasts a unique engine sound an exterior design with tuned aerodynamics.

Some journalists and car enthusiasts can’t help to compare this vehicle to Nissan GT-R. As mentioned in the press release, LFA has power-to-weight ratio, centralized seating concept, balanced component configuration, which makes it comparable to the Nissan GT-R. However, its tag price triggers questions if it is worth the cost. GTR is currently known to be a bargain performance car. Despite of this car, Lexus is confident that they will be able to sell this car.
